A friend and I have been dyeing our hair red for about a year or longer now; we decided to do it separate of each other’s decision. We’re both also kind of passive-aggressive in that we both try to “out-red” each other, but of course, we don’t verbalize that. She dyes hers at home with box dyes; I get mine dyed at a salon by a professional who knows what I want. With background out of the way, let’s fastforward to the recent past:
We have two classes together this year: English and Oral Comm. The first day back to school from winter break, her hair is blazing red-freshly dyed, no doubt. I didn’t say anything bad about it; it looked good. Almost made her look too pasty, though. Anyway. Day two rolls by, and it’s already faded some. Day three, she compares her hair to mine in Oral Comm. My hair was pulled back in a pony, and she sat behind me. She leaned forward and said, “our hair is the same color right now!” I grinned to myself and just thought that I hadn’t dyed mine since Thanksgiving, yet hers was fresh and just as faded.
